It's time to get your GDPR sorted.

Businesses are risking fines of up to £17m or 4% of their global turnover by hoping GDPR will suddenly disappear. It won't. It's here to stay.

Can you imagine how relieved you'll feel once you know you are compliant? You can get back to doing what you do best - running your business.

But hiding your head in the sand is the worst thing you can do. How long will it be before you're caught out?

Who needs to comply?

There is a misconception that very small businesses don't need to comply with GDPR. Whilst there is some truth in this, almost all businesses that store or process any personal information about EU citizens need to comply.

If one or more of the following applies to your business or organisation, then you need to comply with GDPR:

  • You are active (or have a presence) in a EU country
  • You don't have a presence in the EU, but you process personal data about EU residents
  • You have more than 250 employees/members of staff
  • You have less than 250 employees/staff, but collect, store or use personal information about employees or customers.
  • You don't collect personal data, but you operate CCTV cameras

In reality, almost all businesses and organisations will be affected by GDPR.

Personal data is a piece of information that can be used to identify a person. Even if you're just a micro-business and are collecting and storing customer's names or email addresses, you need to comply with the new GDPR law. If you're the owner of a business, charity, start-up or organisation, the responsibility lies with you to ensure that you take steps now.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is in charge of enforcing GDPR, and they are serious about upholding individual's rights.

Privacy breaches are taken seriously by the ICO, with organisations being fined substantial sums of money when they fail to protect personal data. See examples
